So I was under the impression that these Necomimi things were just cat ears for cosplay or something.

That’s not what they are.

Japanese fashion electronics company Neurowear has developed Necomimi, a wearable set of cat ears that you can move with your mind to express emotions via sensors that detect signals from the brain. (x)
